Founded by designer Florence Saumarez and based in Bath, England, Inq specialises in designing and producing hand-marbled papers and products.
We combine traditional techniques with a modern aesthetic, producing products that sit as proudly in Georgian townhouses as they do in industrial loft apartments. The long heritage of marbling informs us whilst the freedom of contemporary design inspires us to reinvigorate this endangered craft. The possibilities are endless and joyful.
Gouache paints are favoured over modern acrylics, giving our marbled papers their characteristic richness and deep velvety finish.
As well as the marbling collections available on this website we are happy to consider collaborations, and if you would like to license a design for reproduction we would be pleased to discuss this with you.
THE ART OF MARBLING
A ‘canvas’ of water is first thickened with carrageen, an Irish moss extract, enabling ink to be floated on the surface. Once applied, the ink can be manipulated by the marbling artist into the desired design using a variety of tools and techniques.
